Madhya Pradesh CM Defends Womens Reservation Amidst Opposition Criticism

Bhopal, April 27: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav defended the central government’s efforts for women’s reservation during a heated debate in the assembly on Monday. He emphasized the importance of delimitation and constitutional provisions, placing the opposition in a defensive position.

Yadav asserted that the proposed women’s reservation cannot be implemented without constitutional amendments and the delimitation process. He accused the Congress and other parties of adopting contradictory stances on this issue.

He questioned their intentions, noting that while in power, they halted delimitation and are now opposing it again. The Chief Minister argued that delays in implementing women’s reservation have significantly limited political representation.

Citing statistics, he pointed out that currently, only 74 out of 543 Lok Sabha seats are held by women. He claimed that if this law had been passed earlier, the number could have been much higher.

He held the Congress responsible for not providing women their fair share. Using Madhya Pradesh as an example, Yadav stated that the number of women MPs could have increased from six to 14, along with significant representation in the assembly through reserved seats for women.

Further intensifying his attack, Yadav accused Congress of historical failures, including halting census-related activities and suppressing crucial reports. He linked constitutional amendments made during the Emergency to efforts that limited democratic representation.

Presenting the debate as a broader governance issue, Yadav stated that under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, the central government has ensured inclusive development across all states, despite political differences.

He added that increasing women’s participation would challenge established political structures, including dynastic politics. The Chief Minister called for consensus, urging members to rise above partisan views.

He emphasized that women have been denied their rights for decades and that it is time to rectify this injustice. He warned that ongoing opposition reflects a lack of commitment to women’s empowerment.
