Bhubaneswar, October 23 (Daily Kiran) — The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast rain and thunderstorms across several parts of Odisha over the next few days due to a low-pressure area developing over the Bay of Bengal.

According to IMD Bhubaneswar Director Dr. Manorama Mohanty, a cyclonic circulation is currently active over the southeast Bay of Bengal and the south Andaman Sea, extending up to about 5.8 km above sea level. This system is likely to lead to the formation of a low-pressure area on October 24, which may move in a west-northwest direction and become more defined within the following 24 hours.
Dr. Mohanty said that easterly and northeasterly winds are bringing moisture into southern and coastal Odisha, creating conditions for rain accompanied by thunderstorms and wind speeds of 30–40 kmph in some areas.
During the next 24 hours, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, and Rayagada districts are expected to witness rainfall with thunder and lightning. The same weather pattern is likely to continue on October 24, while light to moderate rainfall with occasional thundershowers may occur in southern and northern coastal Odisha on October 25.
The IMD further indicated that between October 26 and 27, southern Odisha and a few parts of northern Odisha may experience light to moderate rainfall, along with lightning and gusty winds.
The weather department has advised residents to stay updated with weather bulletins, take precautions against lightning strikes, and avoid unnecessary travel during adverse weather conditions.
