New Delhi, September 1: Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor, Tarunjeet Singh Sandhu, visited the Delhi Traffic Police headquarters in Tughlakabad on Monday. He held a review meeting with officials to discuss traffic congestion, road safety, and preparations for the upcoming BRICS Summit.
During the meeting, the Delhi Traffic Police briefed the Lieutenant Governor on the special traffic arrangements being made for the BRICS Summit, scheduled for next month in the capital. This summit will see the participation of heads of state, government leaders, foreign dignitaries, and senior representatives from various countries.
Officials assured the Lieutenant Governor that technology-based and fully secure arrangements are being implemented to ensure the safe and smooth movement of foreign leaders, dignitaries, the Prime Minister, and central ministers during the conference. They also emphasized minimizing inconvenience for the general public.
While addressing traffic-related issues, Sandhu instructed senior traffic police officials to enhance coordination with other relevant agencies to streamline traffic management in the capital. He stressed the need for strict adherence to road rules and active monitoring and management at major traffic congestion points.
The Lieutenant Governor stated that citizen participation and strong coordination among various agencies are crucial for safer roads, improved traffic management, and increased public trust. He emphasized that only a technology-driven, coordinated, and citizen-centric approach can make Delhi safer and better managed.
The meeting was attended by Special Police Commissioner (Traffic) Ajay Chaudhary, Joint Police Commissioner Sanjay Tyagi, three Additional Police Commissioners of Traffic, Traffic Deputy Commissioners from various districts, and other senior officials.
During the session, the Lieutenant Governor was also informed about various initiatives undertaken by the Delhi Traffic Police. These include the ‘Traffic School’ to raise awareness among rule violators, the ‘Traffic Panchayat’ to ensure participation from civic bodies and other stakeholders in traffic management, and special campaigns against dangerous traffic violations.
Officials noted that these initiatives aim to enhance road safety, improve traffic management, and raise awareness about traffic rules among the public.
