LNG Tanker Disha Successfully Reaches Dahej After Three-Month Wait

Bharuch, June 19: After a three-month wait, the LNG tanker ‘Disha’ has successfully crossed the Hormuz Strait and arrived at the Dahej terminal in Gujarat. The tanker docked at approximately 7:32 AM on Friday.

The vessel departed from Qatar’s Ras Laffan LNG terminal carrying 62,370 metric tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG). The journey was delayed due to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and uncertainties regarding security in the Hormuz Strait, where the tanker had been stranded for over three months.

The ship is operated by a consortium led by the Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) and has been chartered for Petronet LNG Limited.

Due to regional security concerns and rising tensions along maritime routes, ‘Disha’ faced significant delays. Nevertheless, the vessel completed its journey safely, marking it as one of the first Indian LNG carriers to pass through the Hormuz Strait amid the ongoing tensions in the Middle East. The safe arrival of the tanker at Dahej is considered crucial for India’s energy security during these sensitive times.

The Dahej LNG terminal is the largest LNG import center in the country. Thus, the safe arrival of ‘Disha’ is deemed vital for India’s natural gas supply chain. The Hormuz Strait is a strategic maritime route for global energy trade, where tensions have raised concerns about potential disruptions to LNG and crude oil supplies.

According to vessel tracking information, ‘Disha’ has successfully completed its journey and reached the Dahej terminal. This event is seen as significant for the stability of India’s energy supply.
