Kathua, April 13: The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, inaugurated a public movement against drugs in Kathua on Monday.
In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, LG Sinha stated that today, under the ‘Drug-Free Jammu and Kashmir’ campaign, he addressed a public gathering and launched an anti-drug movement. He emphasized the need to create a Jammu and Kashmir where the energy of our youth illuminates the world rather than leading to self-destruction. “Let us face this challenge with unwavering resolve,” he urged.
He further mentioned that the next three months will not only focus on running a campaign but will also plant the seeds for lasting change in Jammu and Kashmir. The foundation of this initiative is ‘compassionate rehabilitation’. “We must change our mindset. Those addicted to drugs are patients and need our help and support,” he added.
Previously, on April 11, the Lieutenant Governor had launched a comprehensive public movement for a ‘Drug-Free Jammu and Kashmir’ from M Stadium in Jammu. The goal is to reach every village, town, city, and home in the Union Territory, engaging all sections of society in this initiative.
The office of the Lieutenant Governor posted on ‘X’ that a historic public movement for ‘Drug-Free Jammu and Kashmir’ was initiated from M Stadium in Jammu. “We have voiced a commitment that will reach every village, town, city, home, and heart in this Union Territory, fulfilling our resolve to make this region drug-free,” the post stated.
The Lieutenant Governor highlighted that the next three months are crucial. The campaign will progress in six clear phases: intensive awareness campaigns, youth-focused programs, community participation, strict law enforcement, rehabilitation, and evaluation. “We will move forward with a ‘whole-of-government approach’ to free Jammu and Kashmir from the threat of drugs,” he said.
The ‘Drug-Free Jammu and Kashmir’ campaign requires not just sympathy but collective action, as it is a societal issue, not just an individual tragedy. “This is a challenge for all of us. Together, with unwavering resolve, we will fight and overcome the evil of substance abuse,” he concluded.
