Lucknow, April 15: Samajwadi Party MLA Ravidas Malhotra announced that the Women’s Reservation Bill will be presented in Parliament on Thursday. A detailed discussion on all related points will take place.
In an interview with a news agency on Wednesday, he emphasized that the Samajwadi Party has always supported women empowerment. “We have backed this cause. However, the way the BJP is approaching it is unacceptable,” he stated.
Malhotra criticized the BJP’s portrayal of the Women’s Reservation Bill, calling it fundamentally incomplete and urging that it should not be accepted in its current form.
He expressed a desire for women to have political representation, affirming that the party has not opposed this initiative. However, he also stressed the importance of advancing social justice for women, ensuring that the comprehensive ideology of women empowerment is implemented effectively.
“We must adopt a holistic approach to women empowerment,” he said, adding that this should include reservations for Dalit, backward class, and minority women.
Additionally, he commented on the ongoing caste census, insisting that it is essential to conduct such a census to clarify the current status of individuals based on caste.
Malhotra claimed that the government’s intentions are unclear, suggesting that it does not genuinely wish to provide social justice to the people. He urged the government to take steps toward achieving social justice, as the current situation does not reflect any progress in this direction. Overall, he reiterated that the Samajwadi Party supports women’s reservation.
