Legal Troubles Loom for Sandeep Pathak After Joining BJP

Chandigarh, May 2: Sandeep Pathak, a Rajya Sabha MP who recently switched from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), may face significant legal challenges. Two FIRs have been filed against him in Punjab, raising the possibility of his arrest by the Punjab police.

Reports from Saturday indicate that non-bailable offenses have been registered against Pathak in two districts of Punjab. The Punjab police may take action at any moment regarding these cases.

Amidst the looming threat of arrest, Sandeep Pathak was spotted leaving his residence in Delhi in a vehicle. Notably, the FIRs against him for non-bailable offenses were filed shortly after he joined the BJP, alongside Raghav Chadha and Ashok Mittal. Other notable figures, including cricketer Harbhajan Singh, Rajinder Gupta, Swati Maliwal, and Vikramjeet Sahni, have also defected from AAP to BJP.

Except for Swati Maliwal, the remaining six MPs represent Punjab in the Rajya Sabha, where assembly elections are scheduled for next year. Following the departure of these seven MPs, AAP’s representation in the Rajya Sabha has plummeted from 10 seats to just 3.

The Aam Aadmi Party and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann have labeled the defecting MPs as “traitors.” Mann stated that those who have disrespected the public mandate do not deserve any mercy, as they are betraying Punjab and its people.

On this matter, Chief Minister Mann is set to meet with the President on May 5. He announced on April 29 that he has secured an appointment at the Rashtrapati Bhavan for this meeting.
