New Delhi, June 25: The prestigious Wimbledon tournament is set to commence on June 29, 2026. Ahead of this iconic Grand Slam, renowned Indian tennis player Rohan Bopanna has shared insights on the guidance that has contributed to his enduring career, including his first men’s doubles title in 2024.
In an interview with GeoStar, Bopanna expressed, “We are fortunate to have a community where we can connect with athletes and sports legends. I remember meeting my idol, Stefan Edberg. The advice he gave me has been instrumental in maintaining my presence in tennis and believing in myself.”
He recounted, “During our conversation, he said, ‘When you are playing, never look at what your opponents are doing. Do what works best for you. Don’t act just because someone else is doing it. Focus on your strengths, work on them, and improve.’ This advice came from someone I admired growing up, especially at Wimbledon, and I have adhered to it throughout my journey.”
Bopanna acknowledged that after tasting early success, he anticipated that significant achievements would come quickly, but that was not the case.
He reflected, “When things happened quickly, I thought everything would change the following year. Little did I know it would take another 13 years. However, I am glad I persevered, kept working hard, and did all the right things. I believe that is essential to remain relevant in the sport.”
Rohan Bopanna has been a prominent figure in Indian tennis, representing the country on major international platforms and capturing the attention of tennis enthusiasts worldwide. At the age of 44, he won his first Grand Slam title in men’s doubles at the Australian Open in 2024.
