New Delhi, September 17 (Daily Kiran) : On September 17, leaders across India, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, extended their greetings on the occasion of Hyderabad Liberation Day. In a post on the social media platform X, Shah expressed, “On this day, I congratulate the people of Telangana, Hyderabad-Karnataka, and the former Hyderabad region of Marathwada.”
Shah emphasized that this day serves as a reminder of the patriotism and bravery displayed by those who overthrew the oppressive rule of the Nizam and Razakars to unite with India. He paid tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed everything for freedom, stating, “This strengthens our bonds as a great nation.”
Uttar Pradesh’s Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Maurya also took to social media, offering heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to citizens of Telangana, Hyderabad, Karnataka, and Marathwada. He noted the pivotal role played by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India’s first Home Minister, in facilitating Hyderabad’s integration into India, which bolstered national unity. Maurya remarked, “His vision and unwavering commitment to national interests continue to inspire us to remain united.”
Bihar BJP President Sanjay Sarawagi highlighted the significance of September 17, 1948, as a symbol of India’s unity and integrity. He credited Patel’s leadership and the struggles of patriots for ensuring Hyderabad’s integration into the Indian Union, paying homage to the heroes of the Hyderabad Liberation Movement.
Delhi government minister Ashish Sood also paid tribute to the brave freedom fighters and patriots whose courage and determination paved the way for Hyderabad’s merger with India. He extended warm wishes for Hyderabad Liberation Day.
Hyderabad Liberation Day is observed annually on September 17, commemorating the day in 1948 when the Indian Army’s Operation Polo liberated the Hyderabad state from the Nizam’s rule, leading to its merger with the Indian Union. At the time of India’s independence on August 15, 1947, Hyderabad was ruled by Nizam Mir Osman Ali Khan, who refused to join India. A military operation was initiated under the leadership of Sardar Patel on September 13, 1948, culminating in Hyderabad’s liberation on September 17, 1948.
