Tehri, September 18 (Daily Kiran) : The Chandra Badni Temple, nestled in the picturesque Tehri district of Uttarakhand, stands at an elevation of approximately 2,277 meters above sea level. This sacred site is renowned for its spiritual significance and is dedicated to the goddess Chandra Badni, who is believed to fulfill the wishes of her devotees. Unlike traditional temples, this shrine worships a Sri Yantra instead of a conventional idol.
Uttarakhand’s Chief Minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami, recently shared his thoughts on the temple through a video on the social media platform X. He described the Chandra Badni Temple as a major center for Shakti worship, highlighting the unique blend of faith, nature, and divinity that the site offers. Surrounded by the majestic Himalayas, the temple provides a serene atmosphere where visitors can experience profound spiritual energy. Dhami encouraged everyone to pay their respects at this holy site when visiting Tehri Garhwal.
The temple offers stunning views of snow-capped Himalayan peaks and lush forests, captivating every visitor. Chandra Badni Temple is the third Shakti Peeth in Tehri, following the temples at Kunjapuri and Surkanda. Instead of a statue of the goddess, the sanctum houses a Sri Yantra, elegantly draped under a cloth canopy. The temple priests and devotees worship this Yantra, seeking blessings from the goddess. In addition to the Yantra, various other deities are also enshrined at the temple.
Due to its elevation, the temple provides breathtaking vistas of the surrounding areas, including the distant Kedarnath and Badrinath peaks, which appear majestic against the skyline. Located in Jamnikhal village, the temple is about 52 kilometers from Srinagar and 57 kilometers from Tehri. Visitors must trek approximately one kilometer to reach this divine destination. According to ancient texts, this site is significant as it is believed to be where parts of Goddess Sati, including some tridents and idols, fell during ancient times, remnants of which can still be found near the temple today.
