New Delhi, September 18 (Daily Kiran) : Voting is currently taking place for the Delhi University Student Union (DUSU) elections under stringent security measures. Police forces are deployed at various locations, and barricades have been set up across the campus. Aryan Mann, the DUSU president, has expressed confidence that the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) will secure a 4-0 victory this year.
At the Kalakaji Deshbandhu College, a significant police presence has been noted. Similar deployments are also seen near the Faculty of Arts, where police are checking vehicles heading towards the area.
In an interview, Aryan Mann stated that the voting process has commenced and the response from students has been overwhelmingly positive. He emphasized the ABVP’s ability to connect with students, urging rival student organizations to prepare their usual excuses for potential defeat.
Regarding security, DCP North Niharika Bhatt informed the media that the Delhi Police have implemented strict measures for the elections. Along with the North District police force, additional security personnel have been assigned to ensure safety. Comprehensive traffic management strategies are in place to minimize inconvenience to the public.
Additional DCP North Pukhraj Gupta explained that the North Campus has been divided into five zones and 23 sectors, each overseen by officers at the ACP and inspector levels. Approximately 700 to 800 personnel are on duty, including five companies of police in the morning and evening shifts. Continuous monitoring through CCTV is being conducted in collaboration with Delhi University, and a team is also monitoring social media for any issues.
After voting concludes, all electronic voting machines (EVMs) will be secured in a strong room, which will also be protected by three layers of security. Barricades will be in place, ensuring robust security outside the strong room.
The Additional DCP urged students to participate in large numbers and vote. Students not affiliated with the respective colleges were advised to refrain from visiting the polling locations today.
The Delhi Police also announced potential traffic congestion around the South Campus due to the DUSU elections. In a post on social media platform X, they informed the public about the deployment of extra traffic personnel to maintain smooth traffic flow. They advised commuters to plan their journeys in advance and allow extra time, following the directions of on-site traffic officers.
