Srinagar, May 19: The ‘Launch Pad Exhibition’ held in Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar has emerged as a significant platform for women entrepreneurs, promoting self-reliance and new opportunities. This event showcased innovations, handicrafts, online brands, and startup ventures by women. A large turnout highlighted the growing recognition and encouragement for women-led enterprises in the valley.
Entrepreneur Fatima shared that while platforms like ‘Launch Pad’ may not guarantee sales, they do ensure visibility. Her brand, ‘Sistralogy,’ gained recognition through ‘Launch Pad 3,’ reaching nearly one million viewers. For women running businesses from home, this platform is invaluable as attendees recognize and remember their brands, leading to increased exposure and sales.
Fatima noted a shift in focus among women, who previously prioritized government and private jobs. She emphasized that employment is not the only option and urged youth to consider starting their own ventures. Showcasing their work at events like ‘Launch Pad’ enhances their reach. She observed that awareness of the initiative was low during ‘Launch Pad 1’ and ‘Launch Pad 2,’ but ‘Launch Pad 3’ achieved significant success, directly impacting sales.
Another entrepreneur, Solia, highlighted the importance of ‘Launch Pad’ as a vital platform for women. She stated that prior to this, women lacked opportunities to showcase their products on a larger scale. Many young entrepreneurs still fear starting their own businesses, often opting for private jobs instead.
Seerat, another participant, remarked that such platforms raise awareness and provide opportunities for young entrepreneurs in Kashmir. Despite the valley’s history of hardship and trauma, events like these are giving youth new direction and confidence. Unemployment remains a major challenge in Kashmir, and the lack of private sector opportunities makes such platforms essential for young people. Seerat, who runs an online business, continued her work during the COVID-19 pandemic and noted that ‘Launch Pad’ has significantly boosted her outreach.
In her message to young entrepreneurs, Seerat stated that failure is the first step toward success and encouraged them not to fear challenges. She acknowledged that family obstacles may arise but emphasized that with patience and passion, any goal can be achieved.
