Lakhanpur Selected as Street Food Hub Under PM Svanidhi Scheme

Kathua, July 11: Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh announced on Saturday that Lakhanpur, located at the Punjab-Jammu and Kashmir border, has been chosen as one of 50 cities in India under a new government initiative. These cities will be developed as ‘Street Food Hubs.’

He stated that the Street Food Hub will be designed as a world-class stall, promoting local culinary arts while ensuring dignified livelihoods for street vendors. The PM Svanidhi scheme provides financial assistance and additional incentives for this street vending initiative.

In a post on the social media platform X, the Union Minister mentioned that the proposed Street Food Hub in Lakhanpur Market will feature two clusters—one near the old bus stand and the other close to the sales tax office. He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for prioritizing Jammu and Kashmir, which enabled Lakhanpur’s inclusion in the first phase of this national-level scheme.

Dr. Singh highlighted that Lakhanpur, as the gateway to Jammu and Kashmir, has traditionally been a hub for tourists, pilgrims, and transit travelers. Therefore, this initiative by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs will further enhance the popularity of this stop along the highway.

Earlier on Friday, the Union Minister took note of a road accident during the Amarnath Yatra in Udhampur and assured all possible assistance. After learning about the incident, Dr. Jitendra Singh expressed concern. He posted on X, stating, “I just spoke with Udhampur’s Deputy Commissioner Minga Sherpa. He reported a road accident involving a private vehicle from Madhya Pradesh on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway near Toldi Nala, which was part of the Amarnath Yatra. Five people were injured, with one woman in serious condition and referred to Government Medical College, Jammu. All possible help is being provided.”

The accident occurred when a vehicle in the Amarnath Yatra convoy skidded near the Toldi Nala area of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. Five passengers, including a female devotee, were injured. All the injured are reported to be from Madhya Pradesh. Due to the severity of the woman’s injuries, she was referred to Jammu’s Government Medical College for better treatment.
