Tamil Nadu Approves ₹1.5 Lakh Crore Urban Development Plan Focusing on Infrastructure

The Tamil Nadu government has approved a massive urban development plan worth ₹1.5 lakh crore, prioritizing roads, sewage, and water supply.

Chennai, November 1 (Daily Kiran) : The Tamil Nadu government has officially launched a comprehensive urban development program, allocating approximately ₹1.5 lakh crore for its implementation. This initiative, announced under the “Prime Minister‘s Integrated Urban Development Scheme,” aims to enhance infrastructure across all urban local bodies.

A significant portion of the budget will focus on improving roads, sewage systems, and drinking water supply. The largest allocation of ₹60,000 crore is designated for urban roads and transportation, followed by ₹50,000 crore for sewage infrastructure and ₹30,350 crore for drinking water projects.

To address solid waste management, the government has set aside ₹3,000 crore. Additionally, ₹2,000 crore will be allocated for reservoir restoration and social infrastructure, with another ₹1,500 crore each for green space development and public health initiatives.

One of the key objectives of the program is to ensure water supply connections to every household. The plan envisions 24-hour water supply in municipal corporation areas and three-hour supply in municipalities, while also enhancing the necessary infrastructure to deliver these services. The initiative aims for comprehensive coverage of underground sewage networks.

Environmental efforts will include planting five million trees and restoring water bodies, including the Adyar and Cooum rivers. Other proposed measures involve establishing animal sterilization centers and installing AI-enabled CCTV cameras.

The Tamil Nadu Urban Finance and Infrastructure Development Corporation (TUFIDCO) will serve as the implementing and financial management agency for this ambitious program.
