Former Minister Implicated in TMC Leaders Job Scam Investigation

A former ministers name surfaces in the investigation of TMC leader Ajit Mehta, arrested for allegedly extorting money for government jobs.

Kolkata, November 1 (Daily Kiran) : Ajit Mehta, a leader of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), was arrested on the night of October 29 in Kolkata amid allegations of extorting ₹10 lakh from an individual by promising a government job. During interrogations, Mehta revealed that a former minister from West Bengal had recommended the job seeker, leading investigators to delve deeper into the case.

The state police confirmed that the former minister hails from Jhargram district, which is also Mehta’s hometown. However, the police have yet to disclose the identity of the minister involved. An official stated, “We cannot provide further details at this stage, as the investigation is still in its early phases.”

Although the FIR lodged against Mehta does not mention the former minister, the police are pursuing this lead following Mehta’s admission during questioning. The fraudulent job offers were reportedly associated with the West Bengal Forest Department and the West Bengal Western Regional Development Department.

The arrest stemmed from a complaint by Sajal Das, who alleged that Mehta had taken money in several installments over time, promising him a government position. Despite the payments, Das claimed he never received the job. He further alleged that when he sought either the job or a refund, Mehta threatened him with severe consequences.
