Kathua, July 11: Central Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh announced on Saturday that Lakhanpur, located at the Punjab-Jammu and Kashmir border, has been chosen as one of the 50 cities under a new initiative by the Indian government. These cities will be developed as ‘Street Food Hubs.’
He stated that the Street Food Hub will feature world-class stalls, promoting local culinary arts while ensuring dignified livelihoods for street vendors. The initiative, part of the PM Svanidhi scheme, includes financial assistance and additional incentives for street vending.
In a post on the social media platform X, the minister mentioned that the proposed Street Food Hub in Lakhanpur Market will consist of two clusters: one near the old bus stand and the other close to the sales tax office. He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for prioritizing Jammu and Kashmir, which enabled Lakhanpur’s inclusion in the first phase of this national-level scheme.
Dr. Singh highlighted that Lakhanpur, as the gateway to Jammu and Kashmir, has traditionally been a hub for tourists, pilgrims, and transit travelers. Therefore, this initiative by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs is expected to enhance the popularity of this stop along the highway.
Earlier on Friday, the central minister addressed a road accident during the Amarnath Yatra in Udhampur, assuring all possible assistance. After learning about the incident, he expressed concern and posted on X, stating, “I just spoke with Udhampur’s Deputy Commissioner Minga Sherpa. A private vehicle en route to the Amarnath Yatra from Madhya Pradesh was involved in an accident near Toldi Nala on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. Five people were injured, including one woman who is in critical condition and has been referred to Government Medical College, Jammu. All possible help is being provided.”
The accident occurred when a vehicle in the Amarnath Yatra convoy skidded near Toldi Nala on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. Five passengers, including a female devotee, were injured. All the injured are reported to be from Madhya Pradesh, and due to the severity of the woman’s condition, she was referred to the Government Medical College in Jammu for better treatment.
