Tehran, July 19: A US projectile reportedly struck the site of the Darkhovin Nuclear Power Plant in Iran’s Khuzestan province on Sunday. The Iranian Atomic Energy Organization (AEOI) confirmed the incident.
According to the Xinhua news agency, the AEOI stated on its official website that the attack occurred at 3:39 AM local time (24:09 GMT). The organization condemned the strike as an “aggressive and brutal act,” asserting that it violates Iran’s national sovereignty and international law.
However, the AEOI did not disclose whether there were any casualties or damage resulting from the attack.
In a related development, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy announced on Sunday that it had intercepted two vessels attempting to navigate through the Strait of Hormuz via unsafe routes.
The IRGC’s official news outlet, Sepah News, reported that four ships ignored warnings, turned off their navigation systems, and attempted to create “disorder” in the strait with US support. According to the statement, two of these vessels encountered “accidents” and were stopped, while the other two were prevented from proceeding.
The Iranian Navy asserted that it maintains full control over the Strait of Hormuz and that the only safe passage through this waterway is the route designated by Iran. They also emphasized that no transportation of oil, gas, or chemical fertilizers can occur through the strait without Iran’s permission and coordination.
Earlier on Saturday, the US Central Command announced that American forces had completed the eighth round of strikes on Iranian military coastal monitoring centers, air defense installations, maritime capabilities, and missile and drone storage sites. They stated that over 50,000 US troops deployed in the Middle East remain “fully alert.”
On the same day, the Iranian military claimed it targeted US bases in Kuwait in retaliation for attacks on Iranian civilian infrastructure, such as bridges, carried out by the US. The Iranian forces stated on their website that they conducted two rounds of drone strikes targeting the Al-Adiri Camp and Ali Al Salem Air Base.
