Tehran, July 19: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced on Sunday that it has successfully shot down a US MQ-9 drone in the Ahvaz region of Iran.
According to Iran’s Tasnim News Agency, the IRGC’s Aerospace Force utilized an advanced air defense system to bring down the drone as part of Iran’s integrated air defense strategy. This announcement comes at a time when Iran is actively responding to US military bases in the region.
Iran’s official news agency, IRNA, reported that Major General Ali Abdollahi, commander of Iran’s Central Khataam al-Anbiya Headquarters, warned that any attack from the US would be met with a severe response from the Iranian military.
Abdollahi stated that Iran would respond decisively to any form of coercion, expansionist policies, or oppression. He emphasized that the consequences for the US could be more severe than those experienced in previous major conflicts.
He further noted that Iran’s defense capabilities guarantee the security of the nation, enabling officials to work for the welfare of the public.
According to IRNA, Abdollahi accused the US of attempting to create divisions between the Iranian people and their government after facing repeated military failures. He asserted that Iran’s internal unity is its greatest strength against such “plots.”
On Saturday, the IRGC claimed responsibility for attacks on a US military base in Jordan, targeting a fuel supply dock in Kuwait and destroying a data center in Bahrain.
As reported by Sepah News Agency, the IRGC’s Aerospace Force targeted fighter jet shelters and a large parking area at the US base in Al-Azraq, Jordan. The agency claimed that at least two fighter jets and three US aircraft were destroyed, with additional damage inflicted on others.
In another statement, the IRGC claimed that its naval forces targeted the US fleet’s fuel supply dock in Kuwait and the positions of combat aircraft in Sheikh Isa, Bahrain, using drone and missile strikes. They also asserted that a classified data center named “Batelco” in Bahrain was destroyed.
The IRGC’s naval fighters reportedly also destroyed a US signal and communication center in Kuwait.
Meanwhile, late Friday, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on the social media platform ‘X’ that American forces had conducted attacks against Iran for the seventh consecutive night.
CENTCOM stated on ‘X’ that on July 17 at 9:30 PM (ET), US forces completed their seventh night of operations against Iran, targeting surveillance sites, military logistics infrastructure, underground weapon depots, and maritime capabilities using fighter jets, drones, naval vessels, and other military assets. According to Iranian state media, the latest US attacks resulted in three fatalities and eight injuries.
