Kolkata Test: India Bowled Out for 189, Take 30-Run First-Innings Lead

Kolkata, 15 November (Daily Kiran). India’s first innings ended on a disappointing note on Day 2 of the ongoing India–South Africa Test in Kolkata. No Indian batter managed to play a big knock, with none crossing even the 40-run mark. KL Rahul fought hard for his 39 runs and finished as the team’s top scorer.

Washington Sundar scored 29 off 82 balls, Rishabh Pant made 27 off 24 balls, and Ravindra Jadeja added 27 off 45 balls. With wickets falling at regular intervals, India were bowled out for 189 in 62.2 overs.

Captain Shubman Gill retired hurt on 4 after suffering a neck injury and did not return to bat. For South Africa, Simon Harmer took 4 wickets, Marco Jansen claimed 3, while Keshav Maharaj and Corbin Bosch picked up one each.

South Africa, who opted to bat first, were bundled out for 159 in 55 overs. In reply, India reached 189, securing a 30-run first-innings lead.

South Africa Also Struggled with the Bat

South Africa’s innings was equally weak after winning the toss and choosing to bat. Their top order collapsed, and the team folded for 159. Aiden Markram top-scored with 31, while no other batter reached 30. Indian bowlers kept the pressure on throughout the innings.

For India, Jasprit Bumrah claimed 5 wickets, Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammed Siraj took 2 each, and Axar Patel picked up 1 wicket.
