Chennai, June 20: The third and final ODI match between India and Afghanistan in Chennai became a memorable occasion for Indian fast bowler Prasidh Krishna. He achieved a remarkable milestone by taking five wickets for the first time in his ODI career, delivering one of the best spells in ODI history at this venue.
Krishna’s impressive performance saw him claim five wickets for just 23 runs in 8.2 overs. This is the best bowling performance by any bowler in ODI format in Chennai. Thanks to his outstanding bowling, the Indian team restricted Afghanistan to 218 runs in their first innings, all out in 44.2 overs.
After his five-wicket haul, Krishna expressed his joy, stating, “I am very happy to perform well for the team. We are working hard on every length in our bowling. It feels great to see things going well, regardless of the format I play. Coach Morne Morkel has also contributed to this success.”
Despite taking four wickets in a continuous five-over spell, Krishna was not given the sixth over. He commented, “I was really quite tired. No complaints. I bowled the fifth over and took the fourth wicket. The most important thing for us was to perform well on the field in such hot weather.”
Chennai has seen notable performances from bowlers like West Indies’ Ravi Rampaul and Pakistan’s Aaqib Javed. Rampaul took five wickets for 51 runs against India in 2011, while Javed achieved the same feat with five wickets for 61 runs in 1997.
