Australia Achieves Historic Victory in Womens T20 World Cup

Southampton, June 20: Australia has recorded a significant milestone in Women’s T20 World Cup history, marking the joint fourth-largest victory by runs. The team triumphed over the Netherlands by 98 runs in a match held at The Rose Bowl on Saturday.

With this win, Australia matches England’s record, which also won by 98 runs against Thailand in Canberra in 2020. England currently holds the top position in this list, having defeated Pakistan by 114 runs in Cape Town in 2023.

In terms of the largest victories by runs in Women’s T20 World Cup history, South Africa ranks second, having beaten Thailand by 113 runs in Canberra in 2020. New Zealand follows closely in third place, winning against Sri Lanka by 102 runs in 2023.

In the 14th match of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, Australia scored 219 runs while losing 6 wickets. The opening pair of Beth Mooney and Georgia Voll provided an excellent start, accumulating 50 runs in just 28 balls.

Voll was dismissed for 17 runs, while Mooney scored 74 runs off 42 balls, hitting 10 boundaries before retiring hurt. Additionally, Ashleigh Gardner contributed 58 runs, and Georgia Wareham added 41 runs to the team’s total. From the opposition, Iris Zwilling took 3 wickets, while Caroline de Lange secured 2.

In response, the Netherlands managed only 121 runs, losing 3 wickets in the process. They lost their opening batsmen by the time the score reached 17. Captain Babette de Leede and Sterre Kalis formed a partnership, adding 96 runs for the third wicket off 91 balls, but it was not enough to avoid a humiliating defeat.
