Kolkata Police Transfers 18 Inspectors in Administrative Reshuffle

Kolkata, August 1: Kolkata Police has conducted another administrative reshuffle, transferring 18 inspectors across various police stations and units in the city. A senior police officer confirmed this information on Saturday.

As per the orders of Kolkata Police Commissioner Ajay Nand, Soumitra Basu has been reappointed as the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Bhawanipur police station in South Kolkata. Although he was promoted to Assistant Commissioner (AC) on Friday, the police headquarters at Lalbazar has instructed him to continue overseeing the operations at Bhawanipur police station in his new role.

Earlier this year, ahead of the assembly elections, Soumitra Basu was appointed in charge of the Bhawanipur police station. He was later transferred to the Kolkata Police’s Special Task Force (STF). In the recent reshuffle, the former OC of Bhawanipur, Rajiv Chatterjee, has been assigned as an inspector in the STF.

Meanwhile, Sayan Biswas, who previously served in the traffic police, has been appointed as the OC of the Metiabruz police station. Pratik Murmu, who was working as the Additional OC at the Rabindra Sarovar police station, has been made the OC of the Garden Reach police station. Surjit Bhattacharya, the Additional OC at Metiabruz police station, has been reassigned as the Additional OC at Hair Street police station, while Deepak Basak from the Enforcement Branch (EB) has been appointed as the Additional OC at New Alipore police station. Several other significant appointments have also been made at the police station level during this process.

These new transfers come just weeks after the West Bengal government reshuffled 33 IPS officers on July 14. In that reshuffle, IPS officer Supratim Sarkar was moved from the position of Additional Director General (ADG) of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and state intelligence head to the ADG of Telecommunications. Meanwhile, Natarajan Ramesh Babu was appointed as the new state intelligence head, taking over as the Director General of Correctional Services.
