Mumbai, March 18: Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) head coach Abhishek Nair delivered an inspiring message to his team before their first practice session at Eden Gardens. He emphasized that the skills are present, the talent is gathered, and it is now time for them to secure their fourth title.
The three-time IPL champions KKR will kick off their 2026 season on March 29 against five-time champions Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium.
In a video posted by KKR, Nair stated, “Before the entire team arrives, I want to share a message with you all. We have prepared extensively, worked on our skills over the past few months, and engaged in numerous discussions. For me, what matters every year is how we prepare our minds. The skills are there and won’t change in the next ten days. However, what can change is our mindset. Therefore, every moment spent on this field, with each other, with the coaches, and among ourselves, has one purpose.”
He added, “We have just one task. We need to win, we need to earn that fourth star, and before our bodies arrive for the first match on the 29th, we will do everything possible to prepare our minds. We use this time to communicate, engage, and strengthen as a group. So, we are ready for everything. Enjoy yourselves.”
Nair also took the opportunity to welcome some new faces to the KKR team, starting with assistant coach Shane Watson and fielding coach Dishant Yagnik. He said, “Friends, I formally welcome all of you. Some new people have joined the team, so I think I should start by introducing them. Everyone knows Shane Watson as a player, but I know him as a person who has played under his leadership.”
He continued, “Watto (Shane Watson), I am truly happy to have you with us. I believe you will prove to be a fantastic addition to the team, even though I have only spoken with you briefly. Take advantage of his experience; you will learn a lot. We have had many great coaches before, but I am confident that Shane Watson will be very significant for us. So, Watto, welcome to the KKR family.”
Nair concluded by mentioning another new member, Mr. Dishant Yagnik, who he described as full of energy. “Many of you may know him from domestic cricket, but I am sure his energy, love, and passion will be very beneficial for us. So, welcome, Yagi. We also have (Manvinder) Bisla and Biju (George) with us, who are part of our scouting team. They are here to assist us during this preparation phase.”
