Australia Unveils 2026-27 Cricket Schedule Featuring Border-Gavaskar Trophy Against India

Sydney, March 22: Cricket Australia (CA) has announced the schedule for the 2026-27 international summer. Over a span of eight months, 27 matches will be played across 14 venues. The season kicks off in August with two Test matches against Bangladesh and concludes in March of the following year with a historic 150th anniversary Test match against England at the MCG.

The highly anticipated Test series between India and Australia, part of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, is expected to commence in mid to late January. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has yet to confirm the official schedule.

Key Australian players such as Pat Cummins, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Nathan Lyon have not secured a Test series victory in India, making this tour particularly crucial for them.

While the international cricket calendar spans seven months for both men’s and women’s teams, the schedule for the Australian men’s team is notably challenging. They are set to play 10 Test matches in just 14 weeks from early December to mid-March, marking it as one of the toughest and most exhausting schedules to date.

Following the two away Tests against Bangladesh in August 2026, the Australian men’s team will face South Africa in a much-anticipated three-match Test series in October.

A significant highlight of this schedule is the first-ever four-Test series against New Zealand. This will be the first time since 1999 that New Zealand will play more than three Tests in a series. The first Test will be held in Perth from December 9-13, followed by a match in Adelaide from December 17-21. Melbourne will host the fourth Test from December 26-30, and Sydney will welcome the final Test from January 4-8.

Due to uncertainty surrounding the future of the Gabba, it has been removed from the Test schedule. Instead, Queensland will host a Test match against Bangladesh at the Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay from August 22-26. The first match of the series will take place in Darwin from August 13-17.

Subsequently, the Australian men’s team will play five matches in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India from January to March 2027. This series will be their last assignment in the current World Test Championship cycle, with significant stakes for Pat Cummins’ team.

In white-ball formats, the Australian men’s team will host England from November 13 to December 2, featuring three ODIs followed by five T20 matches. This limited-overs phase will begin in Perth and conclude in Canberra, with matches taking place across various venues including Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane.

The Australian men’s team will wrap up their calendar with a prestigious day-night Test match against England from March 11-15, commemorating the 150th anniversary of the first Test match. This single Test will be held at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Meanwhile, the Australian women’s cricket team will kick off their summer season in October. They will host Bangladesh for their first bilateral series on Australian soil from October 9-22. All ODI matches will be played in Brisbane under the day-night format, while three T20 matches will be held at North Sydney Oval under floodlights. These ODIs will be part of the Women’s ODI Championship, determining qualification and seeding for the Women’s ODI World Cup 2029.

Following this, the team, led by Sophie Molinuex, will host New Zealand in February next year for a series of three ODIs and T20 matches. Additionally, the Ferns will play six matches from February 21 to March 7, 2027.
