Kiren Rijiju Criticizes Rahul Gandhi for Wasting Parliamentary Time

New Delhi, February 3: Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju launched a verbal attack on opposition leader Rahul Gandhi during a session of the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. Rijiju accused Gandhi of disrupting the proceedings by referencing an article from a magazine related to the unpublished book of former Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane, which raised issues concerning the Ladakh standoff.

Earlier, on Monday, Speaker Om Birla had ruled that parliamentary rules prohibit quoting news articles or magazines, stating that only “original sources” may be referenced in the House.

After a meeting of the NDA parliamentary party, Rijiju spoke to reporters, saying, “Yesterday, there was a very good debate and discussion in the Rajya Sabha. The Lok Sabha also started with a positive atmosphere. However, the entire debate was spoiled due to Rahul Gandhi.”

He further noted that the Rajya Sabha had a productive discussion, with members actively participating and presenting several important suggestions. While discussions in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha began well, everything came to a halt because of Gandhi’s actions.

It is important to mention that members from the Treasury benches repeatedly interrupted Rahul Gandhi, urging him to present original sources to support his claims. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, and BJP MP Nishikant Dubey also interjected during Gandhi’s speech, questioning the validity of his statements.

This led to significant uproar in the House, but Gandhi remained steadfast in raising the issue of the Ladakh standoff for national security purposes. Criticizing Gandhi’s behavior, Rijiju stated, “As a procedure, everyone must adhere to the rules. We are all elected members, and the House operates according to established rules and conduct. Therefore, no one should disregard this, and everyone must comply.”

The Parliamentary Affairs Minister accused Rahul Gandhi of wasting the time of other MPs, including those in the opposition, during the proceedings. He remarked, “Even if someone cannot articulate their point well in a debate, they should not cause harm to others. Many MPs from Congress and opposition parties engage in good debates, provide valuable suggestions, and wish to speak, but their time is being wasted because of Rahul Gandhi.”

Rijiju further added that Congress has a habit of never appreciating anything good. They cannot achieve anything positive themselves, and if something beneficial for the country arises, they cannot tolerate it.
