Beijing, July 1: The North Korean embassy in Beijing updated its external information board on Wednesday, showcasing new images of leader Kim Jong-un and his daughter, Ju-a.
According to the Yonhap News Agency, the embassy frequently changes the images displayed on this board, which is considered a vital medium for conveying North Korea’s image and messages.
The latest update features a total of 25 new photos, with a large portrait of Kim Jong-un at the center, flanked by 12 images on each side. Most of these pictures were taken during his inspection tours from 2016 to February of this year.
This update includes two images from this year. One shows Kim visiting a livestock farm, while the other captures him with Ju-a at a completion ceremony for a construction project in February.
With Ju-a’s presence, the number of her images on the board has increased to six, up from three in March. However, her name is still not explicitly mentioned in any of the photos.
This display board has long been seen as an indication of how North Korea wishes to present itself to the outside world. Pyongyang often controls the timing of its political messages rather than showing diplomatic events in real-time.
The recent changes primarily highlight Kim Jong-un’s domestic activities, with his daughter appearing alongside him.
Previously, this board has also featured images from international meetings, including Kim’s summits with former South Korean President Moon Jae-in, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2018.
According to Yonhap, this board serves as a symbolic medium for North Korea to present its political priorities and diplomatic messages in a controlled manner to the world.
