New Delhi, August 24: On the occasion of National Sports Day, a significant event titled “Khelo India Dialogue – A Conversation on Sports with the Prime Minister” will take place on August 27 across the nation. This initiative aims to connect over 1,500 locations, bringing together youth, athletes, and educational institutions. During this event, Prime Minister Modi will address the youth, alongside prominent figures from the sports world who will engage directly with participants.
Institutions such as IITs, IIMs, NITs, AIIMS, leading medical colleges, and universities will participate in this nationwide campaign. The program serves as a vital platform for sports-loving youth to engage in direct dialogue with policymakers, allowing them to share their thoughts, experiences, and suggestions.
Participants will discuss four key themes related to youth and sports. First, enhancing facilities, coaching, and opportunities to strengthen the sports ecosystem at the grassroots level. Second, focusing on scientific talent identification and athlete development in preparation for the 2036 Olympics. Third, empowering youth leadership and increasing youth participation in governance. Fourth, empowering youth for a developed India, which includes essential skills for the future, volunteering, and nation-building opportunities. Suggestions gathered during this event will be communicated directly to policymakers and the sports ecosystem, helping to link grassroots experiences with the policy-making process.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be part of this event, addressing youth from across the country. The program will commence with a welcome speech from volunteers of ‘My India’. Following this, a special video will showcase significant changes in India’s sports ecosystem over the past 12 years. Key points from the Prime Minister’s Independence Day message on sports and youth power will also be highlighted. After the Prime Minister’s virtual address, programs will kick off in over 1,500 locations nationwide.
Prominent athletes such as Manika Batra, Deepa Karmakar, Saina Nehwal, Gagan Narang, Sreejesh, Mary Kom, Baichung Bhutia, Gopichand, Anju Bobby George, Karnam Malleswari, Mirabai Chanu, P.T. Usha, and renowned cricketers will engage in direct conversations with youth. They will share their journeys, challenges, failures, successes, and experiences in sports. The goal is to instill confidence in the youth that a champion’s journey begins not in a grand stadium, but on a small field with the first attempt. Members of Parliament, state legislators, central ministers, state ministers, and state sports ministers will also participate, engaging with youth to gather their thoughts and suggestions on the four main topics.
As part of this initiative, a ‘Developed India Youth Leader Dialogue’ quiz will be conducted. Youth will also be encouraged to register on the ‘My India’ portal. The aim is to extend the impact of this one-day event, integrating youth into a long-lasting national youth engagement ecosystem.
