New Delhi, August 24: Former Indian cricketer Vivek Razdan is a well-known figure in the commentary world. However, his international career was relatively brief. He made his ODI debut alongside cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar.
Born on August 25, 1969, in New Delhi, Vivek developed a passion for cricket early on and soon decided to pursue a career in the sport. He made a mark in domestic cricket as a fast bowler. Over 29 first-class matches, he took 67 wickets and scored 700 runs with the bat. In List A cricket, he played 18 matches, claiming 14 wickets.
His consistent performance in domestic cricket earned him a call-up to the Indian team in 1989. He got his first opportunity to showcase his skills on the international stage during a Test series against Pakistan. Although he did not perform notably in his debut match, he excelled in a Test in Sialkot, taking 5 wickets for 79 runs. Unfortunately, this match turned out to be his last, and he never donned the white jersey for India again.
Vivek made his ODI debut on December 18, 1989, against Pakistan, alongside Tendulkar. In this match, he bowled in just two overs and played a total of three ODIs, taking only one wicket. Following this series, he gradually faded from the international scene and did not return to cricket at that level.
However, after retiring as a player, Vivek Razdan carved out a niche for himself as a commentator. His commentary gained significant attention during the 2020-21 Test series between India and Australia. His famous words, “The pride of Gabba is broken,” during the final moments of the Test at Gabba became quite popular.
