New Delhi, August 24: The second Test match between India and Sri Lanka is currently underway at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo. On the first day of the match, a heated exchange occurred between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Asitha Fernando. Former Indian cricketer Ajay Jadeja expressed his displeasure regarding Jaiswal’s conduct.
After getting Jaiswal out, Fernando celebrated aggressively, which did not sit well with the Indian batsman. As Jaiswal walked back to the pavilion, he turned around and said something to Fernando. In a surprising turn, Jaiswal even struck the Sri Lankan fast bowler on the helmet. Sensing the escalating situation, Sri Lankan captain Dhananjaya de Silva intervened to separate the players.
Speaking about the incident on Sony Sports, Ajay Jadeja remarked, “This is a dangerous area, no doubt about it. Physical contact is a different matter. In the previous match, Jaiswal was on the other side. He was fielding and said something to Niroshan Dickwella, and we mentioned that it’s fine as long as there’s nothing wrong with your language. The same happened here, but if someone can’t laugh at themselves, they shouldn’t mock others either. If you can’t take it, then don’t dish it out on the field.”
The first day of the Test match ended in favor of the Indian team, who scored 300 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. Devdutt Padikkal played a remarkable innings, scoring 117 runs off 193 balls, including 12 boundaries. Captain Shubman Gill also contributed with a half-century. Jaiswal, however, failed to capitalize on his good start, getting out for 45 runs off 53 balls, while Ravindra Jadeja was clean bowled by Asitha Fernando for 43 runs.
