New Delhi, March 30: The Special Cell of Delhi Police has arrested Shabbir Ahmed Lone, a terrorist linked to the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LET) and the recent metro poster case. He was presented in Patiala House Court, which remanded him to five days of police custody.
Additional Commissioner of Special Cell, Pramod Singh Kushwaha, reported that Lone was apprehended on Sunday night in the Ghazipur area of Delhi. The operation was overseen by DCP Praveen Tripathi. Shabbir is a trained and hardcore terrorist who has received training in Pakistan and was operating his module from Bangladesh. He was involved in placing posters in sensitive areas, including the Supreme Court vicinity.
Authorities recovered various foreign currencies from him, including a Nepalese SIM card, approximately 2,300 Bangladeshi Taka, around 5,000 Pakistani Rupees, and 3,000 Indian Rupees.
Police stated that Shabbir had previously led a module that included seven Bangladeshi nationals and one Indian citizen. After this module was exposed, he returned to India to establish a new network aimed at recruitment and planning.
Kushwaha noted that Shabbir Ahmed Lone had been arrested by the Special Cell in 2007 while plotting targeted killings, during which he was found with an AK-47 and hand grenades. He has undergone training in Pakistan and has been deployed on several special missions. He was also arrested in 2015 alongside his associate Sajjad Bull, who later fled to Pakistan.
The police revealed that Shabbir attempted to establish a new module in Bangladesh and planned multiple operations. This module is linked to the metro poster case and other terrorist activities, involving currency transactions and clandestine operations.
