Noida, March 18: A crucial meeting was held to enhance emergency preparedness and environmental management at Noida International Airport. This gathering was organized under the Airport Emergency Planning Committee (AEPC) and the Airport Environmental Management Committee (AEMC), chaired by District Magistrate Medha Roopam.
The meeting took place at the administrative office of Yamuna International Airport Private Limited, where a comprehensive presentation was made on the airport’s emergency response system, infrastructure, and coordination among various departments. During the session, the District Magistrate emphasized that ensuring swift, effective, and coordinated action in any emergency is the primary responsibility of all agencies involved. Christoph Schnellemann, the airport’s CEO, also provided insights into key aspects of disaster management.
Formed under the Civil Aviation Ministry’s Disaster Management Plan-2016 and following DGCA guidelines, this committee regularly reviews the airport’s security and preparedness measures. Officials from various departments, including the Fire Department, Health Department, DDMA, Yamuna Authority, and APHO, participated in the review. The meeting highlighted the need for better coordination among local hospitals, ambulance services, and airport health units to effectively handle mass casualty incidents.
The District Magistrate reviewed past mock drills and emergency exercises, instructing that district-level officials should receive regular training to ensure immediate responses in crisis situations. Strict directives were issued to the police department to enforce a complete ban on drone flights in the airport’s no-fly zone. Additionally, the use of laser lights within an 18-kilometer radius of the airport will also be prohibited to prevent any disruptions to aircraft operations.
Furthermore, the Yamuna Authority was directed to ensure strict adherence to the designated color codes and height standards for construction in the airport area. Board approval will be mandatory before any construction work begins. The meeting also made significant decisions regarding environmental concerns, instructing the municipality and relevant agencies to strictly follow cleanliness and environmental standards for waste disposal in surrounding areas.
Present at the meeting were several senior officials, including Additional Chief Executive Officer Shailendra Kumar Bhatia, Additional District Magistrate (Finance and Revenue) Atul Kumar, Additional District Magistrate (Judicial) Priyanka, and ACP Sarthak Sengar, along with representatives from police, fire services, disaster management, and airport management. This meeting clearly signaled that the administration is fully alert and proactive in making Noida International Airport safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible in line with international standards.
