Kannur, February 25: Opposition leader V.D. Satheesan expressed serious doubts on Wednesday regarding the alleged attack on Health Minister Veena George by the Kerala Students Union (KSU) at the Kannur railway station. He stated that an initial investigation by Congress found no evidence of any physical assault.

Satheesan remarked, “Our preliminary investigation revealed that no protesters even approached the minister. When she arrived at the Kannur railway platform, there were 35 police officers present and only four KSU workers. There was a protest, but no attack occurred.”

He emphasized that the party would conduct a detailed investigation and assured that strict action would be taken if any Congress worker is found guilty.

“Do you have any pictures of the alleged attack? It’s election season, so such claims can arise,” he added.

This stance from Congress comes amid sharp accusations from the CPI(M), which labeled the incident as a ‘planned attack.’

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan visited the Kannur District Hospital, where George was admitted to the intensive care unit due to injuries to her neck and arm. A team of doctors is monitoring her condition.

CPI(M) state secretary M.V. Govindan alleged that the attack was carried out with the knowledge of Congress leadership, claiming that such an incident against a female minister had never occurred in the state before.

Party workers condemned the incident, leading to protests throughout Kannur. However, the KSU has denied the allegations.

State president Aloysius Javier stated that the workers only raised slogans and did not assault the minister, challenging authorities to release visuals if an attack had indeed taken place.

Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Sunny Joseph, also from Kannur, echoed this sentiment, stating that the available visuals do not indicate that an attack occurred on the minister.
