New Delhi, September 6 (Daily Kiran) : A tragic building collapse in the Satya Niketan area of New Delhi has resulted in the deaths of three individuals, with nine others successfully rescued. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta expressed her sorrow over the incident during her visit to the site.
Gupta reported that 11 people have been rescued and stated her intention to visit the hospital to check on their conditions. “I can assure you that anyone responsible for this tragedy, whether the building owner or an official, will not be spared,” she declared.
The chief minister noted that the building was old and undergoing some construction and repair work. Excavation in the basement caused a pillar to shift, leading to the entire structure’s collapse. At the time of the incident, the building was being used as a paying guest accommodation, and children were present inside.
All agencies are actively engaged in rescue operations, with a primary focus on saving the lives of the trapped children. “Our rescue efforts will continue until everyone is safe,” Gupta emphasized, assuring that all necessary officials are present and no resources will be lacking. However, she reiterated that accountability for the incident is crucial.
Gupta is closely monitoring the rescue operations at the site in RK Puram alongside relevant officials. All agencies are working in coordination, prioritizing safe rescue efforts. Relief operations are ongoing at a rapid pace.
The chief minister is en route to AIIMS to meet with victims and will later visit affected students in RK Puram. Earlier, she expressed her deep concern about the collapse on social media platform X, stating, “I am very worried about the incident in Satya Niketan.”
Gupta confirmed that teams from DDMA, NDRF, Delhi Fire Service, Delhi Police, MCD, CATS, and Civil Defense are working tirelessly on the rescue operations. As a precaution, the adjacent building has been evacuated. Efforts are being made to safely extract those trapped and provide immediate assistance to affected families.
She concluded by assuring that the situation is being monitored closely and that all relevant agencies are collaborating effectively. “The safety and well-being of every citizen is our top priority,” she stated.
