Thiruvananthapuram, October 8 (Daily Kiran) : Kerala is set to initiate a special voter registration drive from October 15 to October 31. This initiative aims to update the voter list and enroll new voters across the state. Chief Electoral Officer Dr. D. Sajith Babu announced the campaign on Thursday, directing all district collectors to implement the plan.
During this period, centers will be established around village offices to distribute application forms, alongside digital help desks. Eligible individuals can apply to have their names added to the voter list by filling out Form 6. Online applications are also available through the Citizen Service Portal or the Voter Helpline app.
Applicants must submit a valid document as proof of identity, age, and address. Those providing an Aadhaar card as proof will need to submit an additional supporting document. After receiving applications, booth-level officers will conduct further verification.
These officers will visit households within their polling station areas. Election registration officials have been specifically tasked with verification duties, ensuring that discrepancies between the voter lists effective from January 1, 2025, and those released after the assembly elections are addressed.
The verification process will also include applications that were not processed during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). The campaign will particularly focus on young voters and first-time registrants.
From November 2, a week-long initiative called “Campus to Booth” will be launched, targeting colleges, higher secondary schools, and other educational institutions. The campaign’s tagline will be “Step Forward, Get Counted.”
District collectors have been instructed to engage as many students as possible in voter awareness activities. The campaign will utilize Electoral Literacy Clubs established in educational institutions, focusing on raising voter awareness and facilitating the enrollment of eligible students.
The Election Commission is taking steps to update the voter list and ensure that qualified voters are included. This campaign in Kerala will provide another opportunity for those who have not yet registered to apply.
Officials have also been directed to review changes in the voter list and address incomplete applications from the SIR process. It is anticipated that the door-to-door verification conducted by booth-level officers will aid in validating the information provided by applicants. This special initiative will take place across all districts in Kerala.
