Kozhikode, September 3 (Daily Kiran) : The Kerala Cabinet, led by Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan, is set to participate in a two-day governance workshop at the Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode (IIM-K). This initiative aims to provide a fresh perspective on governance, moving away from traditional power corridors.
During the sessions, ministers and senior officials will engage in interactive discussions, role-playing, and collaborative learning with IIM-K’s esteemed faculty. The focus will be on addressing contemporary governance challenges, including climate change and transforming obstacles into opportunities.
This is not the first instance of the Kerala Cabinet utilizing IIM-K’s resources. In 2011, former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and his team spent two days at the institute for similar discussions on governance and administration.
Debashis Chatterjee, the director of IIM-K, will lead the program. He emphasized that the current chief minister represents a new generation and that the institute aims to leverage its faculty’s expertise to benefit Satheesan and his team.
The sessions will be highly interactive, moving away from conventional classroom formats. Participants are expected to engage in discussions, role-plays, and other experiential learning activities.
Reflecting on the previous engagement with Oommen Chandy, Chatterjee noted the importance of gaining the trust of the younger generation to secure future electoral victories. He recalled advising Chandy that without this trust, winning the next election would be challenging—a prediction that proved accurate.
As the current cabinet navigates significant pressures, the IIM-K program aims to help ministers view governance issues from a broader perspective rather than being bogged down by daily administrative tasks. Chatterjee described this approach as a “balcony view,” allowing for a comprehensive understanding of the challenges ahead.
Importantly, this two-day workshop is not seen as a one-off event. According to Chatterjee, it is intended to spark ongoing dialogue and engagement, fostering a continuous learning process for the cabinet.
For the Satheesan Cabinet, this initiative represents more than just a change of scenery; it is a crucial step towards modern governance.
