Prime Minister Modi Celebrates Century of Shri Ram College of Commerce in Delhi

New Delhi, September 5 (Daily Kiran) : Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the centenary celebration of the prestigious Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) in New Delhi on September 5. This event commemorates 100 years of the college’s legacy.

The ceremony coincided with Teacher’s Day and saw Modi arriving via the Delhi Metro, where he interacted informally with students, alumni, and faculty members. This marked his first visit to the college since 2013, when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat. Videos of his conversations with fellow commuters quickly spread across social media.

During the event, Modi unveiled a commemorative ₹100 coin to honor the centenary. Earlier, in April 2026, he had released a special postage stamp celebrating SRCC’s 100 years during a meeting with the college’s governing body at his residence.

Prior to the ceremony, Modi announced on social media that he would be present at SRCC at 7 PM, praising the institution for its academic excellence and its role in shaping leaders for business, public life, and society.

The program highlighted SRCC’s significant contributions to India’s higher education landscape. In his address, Modi acknowledged several alumni and remarked, “I feel like a sixth player today. This occasion is historic and vital for the education sector in our country. Many generations have been associated with SRCC.”

He paid tribute to the college’s founder, industrialist, and philanthropist Sir Shri Ram, stating, “When a person lives for 100 years, their experiences are considered a treasure. When an institution achieves this, it becomes a sea of accomplishments.”

Founded in 1926 by Sir Shri Ram, SRCC has established itself as one of India’s premier centers for commerce, economics, and management education. Over the past century, it has nurtured countless scholars, professionals, administrators, entrepreneurs, policymakers, and nation-builders.

The centenary celebration brought together current students, former principals, faculty members, and alumni, showcasing the college’s multi-generational legacy. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also attended the event.
