Gandhinagar, September 5 (Daily Kiran) : Gandhinagar celebrated Teacher’s Day on September 5 with a special ceremony honoring 40 outstanding educators from across the state. The event recognized their significant contributions to education and student development.
Governor Acharya Devvrat and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel presented the awards during the state-level ceremony organized by the education department. Each recipient received a certificate of appreciation along with a cash award in recognition of their efforts.
Teacher’s Day is celebrated throughout India on September 5, marking the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, a former president and distinguished educator.
In his address, Governor Devvrat congratulated the teachers and highlighted the traditional significance of the guru in Indian culture. He likened the role of a teacher to that of a mother, stating that just as a mother gives birth, a teacher transforms students by dispelling ignorance and guiding them toward knowledge.
The Governor compared the education system established during Macaulay’s rule with the value-based approach of ancient Indian education. He emphasized that without humanity, compassion, and respect for parents and teachers, mere material wealth and professional knowledge cannot lead to lasting happiness.
He noted India’s historical contributions in various fields, including astronomy and mathematics, and acknowledged the importance of technical and material knowledge today. However, he stressed that moral values and self-awareness are equally essential.
Devvrat invoked the phrase “sa vidya ya vimuktaye,” meaning true knowledge liberates. He warned that education devoid of values could lead to social unrest and moral decline. He urged teachers to dedicate a few minutes before their lessons each day to impart lessons on the art of living, patriotism, values, and respect for parents.
He pointed out the necessity of balancing technology and culture for the development of the next generation.
Education Minister Pradyumn Vaja congratulated the awardees and their families, stating that the best teachers not only educate children but also inspire future generations. He highlighted the critical role teachers play in instilling values, quality, skills, and curiosity in students.
Vaja described the awards ceremony as an effort to honor knowledge, asserting that a society that respects knowledge can progress and build a better nation. He reflected on the lives and values of Dr. Radhakrishnan and former President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, noting that while legislatures create laws, it is teachers who shape the future of the country in classrooms.
He also mentioned that under Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel’s leadership, the Gujarat government is working to provide quality education and facilities even in remote villages. Vaja called for the effective implementation of the National Education Policy 2020 to help create capable, sensitive, and self-reliant citizens.
