Bengaluru, June 29: The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list in Karnataka will commence on June 30. Under this initiative, 59,050 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will conduct door-to-door verification for one month to ensure that the state’s voter list is accurate, complete, and up-to-date.
During a press conference on Monday, Chief Electoral Officer V. Ambu Kumar announced that this “Special Intensive Revision” is being carried out following directives from the Election Commission of India (ECI).
Ambu Kumar emphasized that the process is designed to be participatory, transparent, and citizen-focused. He urged all voters to cooperate fully with the BLOs. Voters are encouraged to provide accurate information, fill out enumeration forms, and sign them for submission when officials visit their homes.
He also called upon political parties, booth-level agents, local bodies, civil society organizations, media, and the general public to support this revision process.
Karnataka is among 16 states and three union territories where this process is underway, with October 1, 2026, set as the eligibility date.
The door-to-door enumeration will take place from June 30 to July 29. During this period, BLOs will visit every household in their assigned polling areas to distribute enumeration forms to voters whose names were included in the voter list by June 16, 2026.
The draft voter list will be released on August 5, followed by a month for claims and objections until September 4. The final voter list will be published on October 7 after addressing all claims and objections.
The Chief Electoral Officer confirmed that all preparations for the revision are complete. A total of 59,050 BLOs have been trained and deployed across the state.
Additionally, all 31 district electoral officers, four additional district electoral officers, 224 electoral registration officers, 336 assistant electoral registration officers, and 7,556 BLO supervisors have also received training.
Moreover, 115,112 booth-level agents appointed by political parties have been deployed, most of whom have already been trained.
To ensure transparency and public participation, awareness and orientation programs have been organized for recognized national and state-level political parties, as well as representatives from print, electronic, and social media. As of June 16, 2026, Karnataka has 55,432,314 registered voters, all of whom will be included in the “Special Intensive Revision.”
During the door-to-door enumeration, BLOs will distribute enumeration forms and place colored stickers on homes. A purple square sticker will indicate that the enumeration form has been distributed, while a red circular sticker will signify that the house was found locked during the visit.
After voters fill out and sign the forms, BLOs will collect them for digitization. To maximize participation, BLOs will revisit homes at least three times if necessary to collect completed forms.
The Chief Electoral Officer clarified that no supporting documents will be collected during this phase of door-to-door information gathering.
Voters who submit fully completed enumeration forms within the stipulated time will be included in the draft voter list. Those who fail to submit their forms will not be listed.
From June 30, voters can also fill and submit enumeration forms online via the ‘Voter Service Portal’ and the ‘ECI NET’ mobile app.
Citizens who have recently become eligible to vote can apply to include their names in the voter list by submitting ‘Form 6’ along with the prescribed declaration form as per the Election Commission’s guidelines.
The entire process of digitizing enumeration forms and gathering information door-to-door will be completed by July 29.
To raise public awareness, rallies, morning processions, and other outreach programs will be organized in districts and assembly constituencies.
The Chief Electoral Officer’s office has also made available a dedicated public online repository containing circulars, guidelines, videos, FAQs, training materials, and other essential documents related to the SIR for the benefit of voters and other stakeholders.
