New Delhi, February 24: Central Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy expressed deep concern on Tuesday, accusing the Karnataka government of leaving 294,000 government positions unfilled. He also warned against underestimating the protests by unemployed youth.

Kumaraswamy stated that the significant number of job seekers taking to the streets in Dharwad indicates the government’s failure to fill vacancies in a timely manner. He emphasized that the youth have been compelled to protest due to the government’s negligence.

Supporting the demonstrators, Kumaraswamy urged them to conduct their protests peacefully and assured them of his solidarity.

He alleged that while there are currently 294,000 vacant government positions in the state, only cabinet-level positions are being filled at a “super-fast” pace. This reflects the priorities of the Congress government, he claimed.

Citing a report from the Karnataka Administrative Reforms Commission, he noted that there are 700,000 unemployed individuals in the state waiting for government jobs. Vacancies should have been filled in a phased manner, but the government has wasted three valuable years due to internal power struggles, neglecting the issues faced by the youth.

Kumaraswamy remarked that unemployment is not a trivial issue but a continuously erupting volcano that cannot be ignored. He stated that the government should have made separate provisions in the budget to initiate the recruitment process.

He pointed out that the highest number of vacancies exists in the education, health, and police departments. He accused the government of transfer politics, stating that even the 18 major police stations in Bengaluru lack inspectors.

He warned that these conditions directly impact governance and administration, urging the government to take immediate action to fill the vacant positions.

Kumaraswamy called on the government to “come down from the third floor of Vidhana Soudha” and listen to the voices of the youth, warning that if their grievances continue to be ignored, the Congress government will have to pay a political price.
