Bengaluru, April 25: Political tensions are rising within the Karnataka Congress. Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar is currently in Delhi, meeting with leaders from the Gandhi family. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has convened a crucial meeting with his supporters in Bengaluru.
According to Congress sources, the controversy surrounding the Davanagere by-election has sparked internal disputes within the party. This issue has reportedly provided an opportunity for Shivakumar’s faction to become more active against Siddaramaiah’s supporters. In response, Siddaramaiah’s camp is expected to unveil a counter-strategy soon.
Both leaders have previously attempted to project unity through joint events and breakfast meetings. However, recent developments indicate that discussions regarding leadership may intensify following the by-election results.
In the meantime, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah held an important meeting with his close ministers, while Shivakumar traveled to Delhi with his brother D.K. Suresh.
Publicly, both leaders have shown solidarity, but differences are evident in the statements made by their supporting legislators. Siddaramaiah’s son and Congress MLC, Yathindra Siddaramaiah, asserted that his father will remain Chief Minister for the entire five-year term. Conversely, legislators supporting Shivakumar claim he will assume the Chief Minister position during the current term.
Sources indicate that the Congress high command was recently occupied with elections in five states. Now that those elections are nearly concluded, Shivakumar’s arrival in Delhi has become a topic of discussion in political circles.
On the other hand, Siddaramaiah met privately with trusted ministers at a location on Cunningham Road in Bengaluru. This meeting included several ministers, such as G. Parameshwara, K.H. Muniyappa, Satish Jarkiholi, Zameer Ahmed Khan, and Dinesh Gundu Rao.
Reports suggest that discussions during this meeting focused on cabinet reshuffles and internal party issues. Concerns were raised about the targeting of the Chief Minister’s close allies, and their silence is complicating the situation further.
In Delhi, Shivakumar stated that he was unaware of the meeting and emphasized that he does not differentiate between who is close and who is not. He hinted that a cabinet reshuffle might occur as the government approaches its three-year mark, with some “unexpected developments” anticipated before May 20.
Previously, after the budget, CM Siddaramaiah mentioned that the public wants him to remain in office, but the final decision rests with the party high command. He also expressed his readiness to present two more budgets if given the opportunity.
