Kannada Actor Duniya Vijay Granted Divorce, Ordered to Pay ₹2 Crore Alimony

Bengaluru, September 3: Renowned Kannada actor, director, and producer Duniya Vijay’s long-standing marital dispute with his wife, Nagarathna, has finally come to an end. The Karnataka High Court approved their divorce on Thursday. Along with the dissolution of marriage, the court ordered Duniya Vijay to pay a one-time alimony of ₹2 crore to Nagarathna.

The division bench, comprising Justice D.K. Singh and Justice H. Shantibhushan, delivered the verdict after considering the circumstances surrounding Nagarathna, the couple’s three children, and Duniya Vijay’s financial status. The court also took into account Duniya Vijay’s standing in the film industry and his earning potential.

The couple’s conflict had been ongoing for several years. Previously, a family court had dismissed Duniya Vijay’s divorce petition, stating that the allegations of cruelty he made against his wife were unproven. Despite this, their relationship did not improve. Duniya Vijay was unwilling to reconcile, while Nagarathna initially opposed the divorce.

During the hearings, Duniya Vijay leveled several accusations against his wife, claiming that Nagarathna did not care for his parents properly. Given the prolonged discord and distance in their relationship, the High Court ultimately decided in favor of granting the divorce, prioritizing the welfare of Nagarathna and their three children.

In addition to the divorce, the court mandated that Duniya Vijay pay Nagarathna ₹2 crore within two months. If he fails to make the payment on time, he will be liable to pay an annual interest of 6%.

Duniya Vijay rose to fame with the 2007 film “Duniya.” Following its success, he became a prominent figure in Kannada cinema. He later expanded his career into directing and producing, establishing a distinct identity in the industry.
