Ranchi, September 3: The Jharkhand High Court has asked the state government to clarify the timeline for appointing the chairman and members of the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC). This inquiry stems from a petition regarding the shortage of officials and staff in the state’s forest department. The court has set a deadline for the government to provide this information by September 10.
During the hearing, Chief Justice M.S. Sonak and Justice Rajesh Shankar were informed by advocates Sanjay Piparwal and Prince Kumar representing JPSC, that the ongoing examination process for the Assistant Conservator of Forest (ACF) and Range Forest Officer (RFO) positions has been canceled by the government.
In response, the court requested the government to specify the timeline for filling the vacant positions within JPSC. The court had previously emphasized that JPSC is a constitutional body, and the chairman’s position cannot remain vacant for an extended period.
In earlier hearings, the High Court had instructed the government’s advocate to consult with officials and report back on when the appointment of the JPSC chairman would be finalized. The court deemed it essential to ensure the smooth functioning of the commission to facilitate the recruitment process for vacant positions in the forest department.
Previously, JPSC had informed the court that the process to fill vacancies in the forest department had commenced. The preliminary and main examinations for ACF and RFO had been completed, and the results of the main examination were announced, along with the scheduled date for the physical efficiency test. However, the cancellation of the examination process by the government has altered the situation regarding filling these long-vacant positions in the forest department.
