Mumbai, June 25: June 25 is recognized in Indian history as ‘Constitution Martyr Day.’ On this day in 1975, a state of emergency was declared, viewed as a violation of democracy and the Constitution. In light of this occasion, actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut shared a video on social media related to her film ‘Emergency.’
Through the video on Instagram, Ranaut showcased the preparation behind the film, the experiences of the cast, and scenes that depict the story of the emergency period. The video aimed to illustrate the effort put into bringing the events of that era to the screen. Along with the video, Kangana wrote an extensive caption.
In her caption, she stated, “Today, we pay tribute to all those who steadfastly defended democratic values during one of the darkest periods in India’s history, the Emergency. The Emergency was a direct attack on our Constitution. During this time, civil rights were suspended, freedom of expression was curtailed, and political leaders, journalists, and social activists were arrested, severely impacting institutions considered the foundation of democracy.”
Kangana added, “I directed, acted in, and produced a film on this subject. As a filmmaker, it has been an extraordinary experience for me. I urge everyone to watch ‘Emergency’ on Netflix.”
The video also featured glimpses of the cast associated with the film, where several actors praised Kangana’s direction. Renowned actor Anupam Kher remarked, “Working with Kangana as a director has been a special experience for me. She is a meticulous director.”
Satish Kaushik also noted that Kangana is a director who pays attention to the smallest details and is capable of eliciting outstanding performances from her actors. Other actors, including Shreyas Talpade, also commended her work.
In ‘Emergency,’ Kangana portrays the role of then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The film was released in theaters on January 17, 2025, and aims to depict the political circumstances during the Emergency period.
