Kalyan Banerjee Accuses BJP of Framing TMC Workers in False Cases

Kolkata, May 29: Kalyan Banerjee, a Member of Parliament from the Trinamool Congress (TMC), has taken a firm stand against police excesses and false cases targeting his party workers in West Bengal. In a lengthy post on the social media platform ‘X’, he addressed TMC workers, supporters, and brothers across the state, leveling serious allegations against the BJP and the police administration.

Banerjee stated, “We have received numerous complaints from various parts of the state that TMC workers are being ensnared in false and politically motivated cases. Under pressure from BJP leaders and legislators, a section of the police is filing baseless FIRs and arresting our workers.”

He claimed that in several instances, TMC workers were paraded in handcuffs, with some even having ropes tied around their waists. He described this as an example of “police excess and abuse of government power.”

Banerjee noted that many of those arrested are quickly obtaining bail, which indicates the weak foundation of these cases. However, he expressed concern for those who have not yet received bail and remain in judicial custody for an extended period. He urged their families and well-wishers to contact him with certified copies of FIRs and court orders.

He clarified, “I will do everything possible, within the bounds of the law, to fight their cases in the High Court and secure appropriate legal remedies.” He emphasized that the fight for justice should always be conducted in a democratic and legal manner.

Political tensions between TMC and BJP have escalated in West Bengal in recent months. Ahead of the assembly elections, both parties are accusing each other of targeting their workers. TMC claims that the BJP is misusing police and administration to harass opposition workers, while the BJP counters these allegations by accusing TMC of violence and corruption.
