
Melbourne Renegades secured a thrilling 4-wicket victory against Melbourne Stars in the 22nd match of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2025-26 season on Sunday.
With this win, the Renegades earned 4 points, marking their second victory of the season. The team currently stands seventh with a net run rate of -0.636. On the other hand, Melbourne Stars remain in second place with 8 points from 6 matches, having lost 2 games.
The match at Melbourne Cricket Ground saw Stars bat first after losing the toss. They managed 173 runs for 9 wickets. Sam Harper and Thomas Rogers opened strongly, putting on a 30-run partnership in 2.4 overs. Rogers scored 15 runs before getting out, while Harper contributed 20 runs off 10 balls.
Campbell Kelway added 33 runs and Tom Karen scored 38 runs. From the Renegades’ bowling side, Gurinder Sandhu took a team-high 4 wickets, supported by Calum Stone’s 2 wickets.
Chasing the target, Renegades reached it in 19.5 overs. They lost Tim Seifert early at 24 runs, but Josh Brown and Mohammad Rizwan then put together a crucial 103-run partnership for the second wicket, taking the score to 127.
Brown played a powerful innings of 84 runs off 48 balls, hitting 4 sixes and 9 fours before getting out. Rizwan contributed 41 runs from 38 balls, including 4 fours. Captain Will Sutherland added 19 runs to the total.
From the Stars’ bowling, Harris Rauf and Peter Siddle took 2 wickets each, while Mitchell Swepson claimed 1 wicket.
The Renegades will next face Perth Scorchers on 7 January, while Melbourne Stars will take on Sydney Sixers on 8 January.
