Bangladesh Captain Responds to Controversial Run-Out Incident In ODI Against Pakistan

Dhaka, March 14: In a thrilling encounter on Friday, Bangladesh faced Pakistan in the second ODI of their series at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Dhaka. Pakistan secured a victory, leveling the series at 1-1. However, the match has sparked significant debate over the controversial run-out of Salman Ali Agha, which many believe goes against the spirit of the game.

The incident occurred during the 39th over of Pakistan’s innings. Mehidy Hasan Miraz bowled to Mohammad Rizwan, who played the ball back towards the bowler. In an attempt to field the ball, Miraz collided with Salman Ali Agha, who was standing outside the non-striker’s crease. As the ball came to a halt, Agha decided against taking a single and began to return the ball to Miraz. In a surprising turn, Miraz seized the opportunity and threw the ball at the stumps, resulting in Agha being declared run out after an appeal to the third umpire. This decision has been widely criticized as unsportsmanlike.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who also captains Bangladesh, addressed the incident post-match, stating, “My intention was only to stop the ball and save a potential run. He was out of the crease, and I was just heading towards the ball. If I had missed it, he could have easily taken a run, so I decided to throw at the stumps.”

Pakistan’s players expressed their displeasure over the decision. Agha, visibly upset, threw his gloves and helmet in frustration and directed harsh words towards the Bangladeshi players. Former Pakistani captain Ramiz Raja, who was commentating during the match, also voiced his concerns, emphasizing that the spirit of cricket is paramount.

In terms of match performance, after losing the toss, Pakistan batted first, scoring 274 runs with contributions from Majid Sadakat (75), Agha (64), and Rizwan (44). Due to rain, Bangladesh was set a target of 243 runs under the DLS method, but they collapsed for just 114 runs, losing the match by a significant margin of 128 runs.
