Mumbai, August 12: Former South African cricketer Jonty Rhodes emphasized that diseases like cancer do not develop overnight. Instead, they are the result of poor habits, stress, and lifestyle choices. He urged individuals to adopt healthier lifestyles.
Renowned for his exceptional fielding during his career, Rhodes is now the brand ambassador for SSO Cancer Hospital. Speaking at an event organized by the hospital, he stated, “The interesting aspect of lifestyle-related diseases, particularly cancer, is that they don’t occur suddenly. They are the outcome of our habits, the stress we endure, and the lifestyle choices we make.”
Rhodes further explained, “As a hockey and cricket player, I have been fortunate that fitness has always been a part of my lifestyle. I’m not suggesting that fit individuals are immune to cancer, but I have always been conscious of the choices I make. My wife and I have taught our children to choose the harder options, as making the right choices will help them avoid difficulties in the future.”
He added, “I spend five months a year in India with my family, so I am not just a tourist here. Living in a country allows you to understand what is happening around you. No one in my family has had cancer, but I recognize that many people today are adopting lifestyles that make cancer increasingly common. Therefore, my knowledge comes not from personal experience but from a desire to raise awareness about cancer and the options available to people.”
Rhodes reassured that cancer treatment is possible and that there is no need for fear. He noted that India has many excellent doctors specializing in cancer treatment, and SSO Cancer Hospital is specifically designed for this purpose, which is why he is associated with it.
