Jharkhand: Team Targeted During Raid Against Illegal Liquor, Officer Injured

Chaibasa, March 3: A team from the excise department faced violent opposition while conducting a raid against illegal liquor in Argundi village, near Chaibasa in the West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand. During the assault, Assistant Sub-Inspector Mantu Agarwal sustained serious injuries.

A crowd armed with bows, arrows, and traditional weapons drove the excise team away.

According to official sources, the department received a tip-off about illegal liquor production in a house along the Chaibasa-Chakradharpur road in Argundi village.

To verify the information, an 8-10 member team arrived at the village and initiated a search operation in the identified house. During the raid, an individual inside the house suddenly attacked the team with a sharp weapon, targeting Assistant Sub-Inspector Mantu Agarwal, who suffered severe injuries to his neck and back. The incident caused chaos.

Other officers managed to escape and exit the premises. Following the attack, panic spread through the village, and many locals gathered at the scene with bows, arrows, and traditional weapons. Given the escalating tension, the team decided to retreat.

The injured officer was promptly taken to Chaibasa Sadar Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment. Doctors report that his condition is stable. Upon learning of the incident, Excise Commissioner Niranjan Tiwari visited the hospital to meet the injured officer. Following the event, the Chaibasa Muffasil police also became active. Led by Station House Officer Vinod Kumar, the police force arrived in the village and began an investigation. Police sources claim that a suspect involved in the attack has been detained, although official confirmation is still pending.
