Major Drug Bust in Gandhinagar: Two Traffickers Arrested with 12 Kilograms of Cannabis

Gandhinagar, April 3: In a significant operation, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of the Gujarat CID arrested two individuals in the Mota Chiloda area of Gandhinagar, seizing approximately 12 kilograms of cannabis. Authorities reported the arrests on Friday.

Acting on specific intelligence gathered during routine patrols, an ANTF team intercepted a government bus at Chiloda Circle, apprehending two suspects believed to be involved in drug trafficking.

The accused have been identified as Viraj Solanki (26) from Daboda and Aditya, also known as Aadi Baraiya (22), from Chanakya Puri in Gandhinagar.

According to officials, the operation led to the confiscation of 11.94 kilograms of cannabis, valued at ₹5.97 lakh. Additionally, two mobile phones worth ₹10,000 were seized, bringing the total value of the recovered items to ₹6.07 lakh.

This operation was conducted by a team led by Inspector N.R. Patel, which included officers K.M. Vadnagara, P.S. Jala, and P.M. Chavda, along with other staff and a technical expert.

A case has been registered under sections 8(c), 20(b)(2)(b), and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act of 1985. The investigation has been handed over to the Chiloda police station.

This seizure is part of a broader crackdown on narcotics in Gujarat and other regions. Earlier in February, authorities uncovered a large illegal drug cultivation operation in Bhavnagar district, seizing narcotics worth over ₹10.9 crore, including cannabis and opium. This was one of the largest seizures in the state to date.

In March, law enforcement agencies also identified a significant urban network for drug distribution, recovering hybrid cannabis valued at over ₹26 lakh from a rented apartment.

In another recent operation, the ANTF seized 5.177 kilograms of cannabis in the Prantij area of Sabarkantha district and arrested one suspect, initiating further investigations to uncover the larger supply network.
