Ranchi, August 13: The student protests against irregularities in the JPSC and JSSC examinations in Jharkhand have entered their 20th day. Six students are currently on a hunger strike at the Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium. They are insisting on a CBI inquiry into the examination discrepancies, reforms, and accountability. Meanwhile, they are also planning a flag march.
Student leader Ravindra stated, “Today marks the 20th day of our protest. Two of my colleagues are on hunger strike, and two others have been hospitalized. Several other students are also participating in the hunger strike. I appeal to the government to consider our demands and not let us remain here for an extended period.”
He emphasized that they will not compromise on their demands. The protest will continue until their requests are met. “We are waiting for the government to engage in dialogue with us. We want to discuss our issues in the presence of the Chief Minister,” he added.
Ravindra mentioned, “We are preparing for Independence Day and planning a grand flag march. Since we arrived here, we have organized various activities to convey that the students here are educated and aware. Previously, we held a silent march to show the government that after chanting slogans and making noise, we are now trying to deliver our message peacefully.”
Regarding the FIR filed by Jharkhand police, he stated, “We had a meeting with our SSP yesterday, but there was no mention of FIRs being lodged against the students. Our protest was historic, with students raising their voices for their rights. If the administration believes that some anti-social elements were present trying to derail the student movement, the government should identify them. They must remember that around 50,000 students were present. If only one or two percent were undesirable elements, only they should be identified, and students should not be harassed in any way.”
Meanwhile, protesting student Piyush Kumar Singh said, “For now, we will continue our peaceful and disciplined protest. The movement will persist until the next round of talks or until our demands are met. We seek justice and trust the minister to deliver it. We have hope in the government, which is why we are sitting here. We urge our Chief Minister to resolve our issues as soon as possible.”
